ARTSKUL

The project “ARTSKUL” proposes an innovative range of services using the disciplines of performing arts, including music, theatre and storytelling, to create a set of educational tools learning to develop the main soft skills for low-skilled adults.

The partners are convinced that the traditional "sage on the stage" model of education has little initial value in today's context. For educators to attract adults on the margins of provision, a new, more holistic approach to teaching is needed.

In a pedagogical context, the performing arts of storytelling, drama and music have faded into the background and are now rarely considered as appropriate techniques for building essential skills. However, in today's context, with the low levels of literacy and numeracy within the target groups of marginalised adults, activities such as storytelling, drama and music workshops can be considered effective techniques to help overcome social and cultural barriers and build key competences among marginalised adults and communities.

The project developed the following materials:

  • A toolkit with built-in learning resources to develop basic skills and competences based on the different disciplines of the performing arts.
  • A digital skills training framework based on the most popular social media platforms to support adults in recording the 'performances' of narrative, drama and music that emerge as a result of their involvement during the project lifecycle.
  • In-service training for adult educators to enable them to harness the potential of the different performing arts disciplines to develop basic skills and key competences and to develop alternative teaching strategies that enable them to work as facilitators of learning in group environments.
  • And, an online learning platform to support the adult educators involved in the project and record the learning experiences of the adults involved.
