SingleStory

The project “SingleStory” aimed at giving the stage to griots, historians or storytellers from West Africa, in order to promoting African stories through the digital storytelling medium.

The project aimed to:

  • Support local griots in developing digital stories.
  • Providing local schools, adult education centres and communities in partner countries with a unique perspective that can only be fostered through learning about the stories of Africa.

To achieve this goal, the project developed the following resources:

  1. Digital storytelling curriculum - A course designed to develop the digital and storytelling skills of African storytellers, ensuring that they have the necessary skills to document and record their stories and share them through a variety of multimedia tools and platforms, such as short films, podcasts and animations.
  2. Induction training programme for adult and community educators - A customised induction training programme to ensure that adult educators are fully trained to apply the Digital Storytelling Curriculum and to take advantage of the full potential of the online learning environments developed by the project's partners.
  3. SingleStory Digital Repository and MOOC - The SingleStory Digital Repository will share all 140 digital stories produced by African storytellers who complete the Digital Storytelling Curriculum. The MOOC will provide access to the digital storytelling curriculum and the initial training programme.
